Panspermia is the scientific hypothesis that life exists throughout the Universe and is distributed by space dust, meteoroids, asteroids, comets, or planetoids. Instead of originating on Earth, life (as microorganisms or chemical precursors) arrived from outer space, potentially seeding the planet billions of years ago.


Key aspects of the panspermia theory include:


Mechanism: Microbes, such as bacteria or extremophiles like tardigrades, can survive the harsh conditions of space travel, including extreme radiation and temperature changes.


Transport: Life is transported via panspermia from one planet to another, either within a solar system or between star systems. This can occur via impacts that eject life-bearing rocks, known as lithopanspermia.


Origin of Life: The theory suggests that life did not originate in a "nutrient-rich pocket of the ocean" on Earth, but rather came from somewhere else.
