Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training is a grueling, 6-month, three-phase program in Coronado, California, that selects and trains US Navy SEAL candidates. It focuses on intense physical conditioning, combat diving, and land warfare to develop extreme mental and physical stamina, featuring the famously difficult "Hell Week".


Core Components of BUD/S Training


Location & Duration: 6 months at the Naval Special Warfare Center in Coronado, California. Goal, To test mental and physical stamina, leadership, and team-working capabilities under extreme stress.


Phases:


Orientation (3 weeks): Prepares candidates for the intensity of the program.


Phase 1 (7 weeks - Physical Conditioning): Focuses on running, swimming, and calisthenics, culminating in "Hell Week," where candidates endure 5.5 days of, little sleep and constant physical exertion.


Phase 2 (7 weeks - Combat Diving): Teaches basic combat diving and underwater skills.


Phase 3 (7 weeks - Land Warfare): Focuses on weapons training, demolition, and land navigation.


Attrition Rate: Extremely high, often around 70% or more, with many candidates quitting during the first phase.
