Iran UFO events refer to a series of reported, high-profile encounters with Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) or Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) within Iranian airspace, most notably the 1976 Tehran incident, which is considered one of the most well-documented military encounters in UFO history. These events often involve military radar, visual sightings by pilots, and, in some cases, significant electromagnetic interference with aircraft systems.
The 1976 Tehran UFO Incident (Most Famous) : Occurring in the early hours of September 19, 1976, this incident involved multiple witnesses and military aircraft.
The Sightings: Air traffic controllers at Mehrabad Airport reported a bright, luminous object. As it maneuvered, it was observed to be a cylinder with blue, green, red, and orange lights, sometimes appearing to split or change shape.
Military Engagement: The Iranian Air Force scrambled two F-4 Phantom II jet interceptors. As they approached the object, both jets experienced total communication and instrumentation failure.
Weapons Malfunction: When one pilot prepared to fire a missile, his weapons control panel went dead. These systems only returned to normal functionality after breaking off the pursuit.
Documentation: The incident was documented in a U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) report, which was distributed to the White House, CIA, and NSA.
Satellite Detection: A U.S. DSP-1 spy satellite recorded an infrared anomaly for about an hour during the incident.
