The Great Reset Initiative is an economic recovery plan proposed by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The project was launched in June 2020, accompanied by a video message from the then-Prince of Wales, Charles. Its stated objective is to support recovery from the global pandemic in a manner that emphasizes sustainable development.
The "Great Reset" conspiracy theory posits that global elites are using the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, and other global crises as a pretext to deliberately destroy capitalism, abolish private property, and install a totalitarian, socialist, or "New World Order" one-world government. It is a widely circulated narrative that reimagines an actual World Economic Forum (WEF) initiative as a, dark, orchestrated plot.
Propagation and Key Figures : The theory spread rapidly in late 2020, fueled by social media, right-wing media figures, and politicians.
Political Amplification: US politicians like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Rep. Paul Gosar, as well as Canadian politicians like Pierre Poilievre, have promoted these ideas, linking them to "globalism" and socialism.
Media Amplification: Fox News hosts, including Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham, and broadcasters like Glenn Beck, have warned that the initiative is a threat to American sovereignty.
Global Spread: The theory has been actively promoted in the Netherlands by populist politicians, in Australia via Sky News, and on various anti-vaccine/anti-lockdown platforms.
